Weather Watch: Snow, winter conditions to stick around Moffat County

It looks like Punxsutawney Phil was right on the money as far as Northwest Colorado is concerned in the near future.

The Groundhog Day prediction of six more weeks of winter from Pennsylvania’s favorite furry weatherman is holding true for Craig and Moffat County. And some residents may be feeling a Bill Murray sense of deja vu, as we are in store for a repeat of last week’s conditions.

“It’s going to stay cold and it looks good for some more snow,” said Paul Frisbie, meteorologist for the National Weather Service Grand Junction office.

A cold weather system is due for the area starting Monday and will stick around Tuesday, bringing with it about 3 inches of snow. A low of minus 10 degrees is expected Wednesday morning.

Much like last week, this sprinkling early in the week will be overshadowed by a bigger occurrence, likely happening Friday.

“As far as projected snow totals, I can’t say,” Frisbie said. “The potential’s there that we could see more than three inches. It’s impacting the entire region anywhere you go, up to Wyoming as well.”

Though snow is almost certain, gusty conditions to go along with the precipitation aren’t expected.

“It might be a little bit breezy here and there, but just falling snow will be the prominent feature and not much blowing and drifting snow,” Frisbie said.
