UTV accident kills 9-year-old boy
Craig — A 9-year-old boy who was visiting the Craig area died in a utility task vehicle accident on private property off Moffat County Road 78 at 9 p.m. Friday.
Moffat County Sheriff K.C. Hume said the boy died as a result of a low-speed rollover. The UTV rolled over onto its side, pinning the boy against the ground.
“He sustained head injuries as a result of the crash,” Hume said.
The boy was transported to The Memorial Hospital by emergency medical services.
According to Hume, the boy is not from the Craig area.
Agencies responding to the accident scene included the Colorado State Patrol, the Moffat County Sherriff’s Office, Craig Fire/Rescue and THM EMS.
The UTV was driven by Kevin Harvey, 53. Other passengers included Kevin Sidener, 35, and a 12-year-old female. None of the occupants were wearing helmets or using the vehicle’s safety restraints, according to Hume.
Hume said the investigation is ongoing and therefore no names are being released yet, but no criminal conduct is suspected.
“It appears it was a tragic accident,” he said.
