United Methodist lay leader earns license

Guest author

Karen Gibson completed the Local Pastor Licensing School of the Rockies held at The Iliff School of Theology Aug. 2-12.

Gibson is a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Craig where she has initiated a number of children and youth programs. She is also involved with the Share Colorado program in Craig.

Gibson, who is considering the ministry as a profession, said she hoped the study “will provide confidence and affirm what I am already doing in ministry.”

Course work included study in public worship, pastoral aspects of ministry, organizing a parish for nurture and mission and educational ministries in the church.

Upon completion of the program students may apply for a license through the United Methodist Rocky Mountain Conference to serve as pastor of a specific church.
