Last week, employees of Oak Creek-based Twentymile Mine presented The Memorial Hospital Foundation in Craig with a $25,000 donation.

Twentymile Mine, operated by St. Louis-based Peabody Energy, matched its 2012 contribution to the hospital, bringing its two-year total to $50,000, according to a TMH Foundation news release.

“Peabody recognizes the importance of strengthening medical services that benefit our employees, their families and our communities,” general manager of Peabody’s Colorado operations Pat Sollars was quoted as saying in the news release. “We’re pleased to help introduce advanced technology that will have a marked improvement in efficiency for client care.”

A portion of the funds will be spent on software for an electronic medical record system for the emergency room department at TMH, the release stated.

The new technology will increase doctor access to patient medical records, while decreasing turnaround times for diagnoses, the release stated.

“Of great significance, the new system will enhance telemedicine in our rural area, allowing improved transmission of medical records to major hospitals in conjunction with flight-for-life transports,” said Bonnie Hampton, TMH Foundation vice-chairperson and Peabody retiree, in the release.

The Memorial Hospital Foundation was founded in 2002 to support and improve rural health care needs of the community, according to the news release.

The foundation’s main mission is to cultivate relationships and partnerships within its community to generate financial resources to enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide quality health care.

Peabody Energy is a private-sector coal company dedicated to sustainable mining and clean coal solutions.

Twentymile Mine employs 500 workers, and injects $670 million in direct and indirect economic benefits for Colorado each year.
