Trapper Mine injury free for 2 years

For the past two years, Trapper Mine has not had a single lost-time injury.

Trapper reached the safety milestone on April 21.

“We’ve only exceeded that once in the lifetime of the mine,” Trapper Safety Manager Karl Koehler said.

The only other time the surface coal mine made it two years without a lost-time accident was in 1993.

The mine reached the milestone by “fostering a continual focus on safety,” Koehler said.

But the mine doesn’t look at two-year goals, he said. Rather, workers focus on working safely each day, and the milestones happen on their own.

The Colorado Mining Asso–ciation recognized Trapper with a safety award in February.
