Tony Angelo: Bulldogs continue winning tradition

My name is Tony Angelo, and I am a 1985 graduate of Moffat County High School who lettered in golf (four years) and basketball (three years). I’m so excited for this year’s girls team and its remarkable progress this season.

The reason for this email is, I wanted to get some clarification from the most recent article you wrote on the fantastic hoops victory of the Lady Bulldogs over Kent Denver. It was mentioned in your article that it was Moffat County’s first trip to the Final Four. I was a starter on the 1984 boys team that made it to a 3A State Tournament Final Four in the 1984 season. Because of our 2A schedule in the regular season, we had to win the 3A District Tournament outright (which we did in ’84 and ’85) to even get a #4 seed at State.

You can ask current Boys Basketball Head Coach Eric Hamilton about that, as he was also on those teams, along with Coach Todd Hildebrandt.

I believe the girls team also made a Basketball State Final Four in the 2005 season (I think — maybe it was 2006) as well. Both of those teams reached their Final Fours under Head Coach Craig Mortensen.

Keep up the great work, as I have been a lifelong fan of MCHS sports. I look forward to your articles informing me of all the sports teams’ progress throughout their respective seasons. Go Lady ‘Dogs, take State!

Best Regards,
