The sites unseen

The Memorial Hospital should be congratulated for hosting a site tour Saturday to review a possible home for a new facility.

Hospital officials have come under fire by some residents because these officials seemed resolute in building a new facility on the site of the current hospital.

The hospital board of directors, however, after holding several public meetings, decided that it had to look at other possible locations.

Because of the outcry that preceded this decision, we were a little surprised when only 30 residents showed up to the site tour Saturday.

We believe that this issue is analogous to voting — if you don’t participate in the site selection for the hospital, you will have slim legitimacy in any complaints you might have when the final decision is made.

When it comes to a community, the hospital and its location is just as important a cornerstone as any other facility of significance, such as a school or a city hall or a police station and this location should not be taken lightly by residents.

Because we are still in the early stages of site selection, we strongly urge residents to get involved, stay involved and not wait until the last minute to voice concerns over such a critical issue.

An overview of these sites was included in Monday’s edition of the Craig Daily Press and we will continue to provide extensive coverage until and after the site selection is made.

Each of these sites has pros and cons, some of which were brought up on the tour but you may have a perspective that might not have been brought up.

Now is your chance to let the board know of your concerns and preferences.

Don’t let this opportunity go to waste.
