Taste of Home Cooking School almost sold out

Staff Report

— There will be two hours of a live cooking show to watch and learn from.

There will be door prizes and goodie-bags with an assortment of gifts, including catalogs, coupons and a cookbook with more than 100 recipes.

There will be 11 people who will take home recipes cooked up by culinary specialist and show host Kristi Larson.

But more than anything else, Julie Dempster, the coordinator of this year’s Taste of Home Cooking School, said she will take home something entirely different from Monday’s event.

“What I’ve always taken away from it is just a sense of community in seeing that place packed,” Dempster said. “Friends just pile in together. : It is just a fun evening out. Cooking is such a universal thing.”

An estimated 800 people are expected to attend the cooking show, which takes place Monday in the Moffat County High School auditorium.

Larson is conducting the two-hour show, a task she has done more than 60 times in the past year and a half, she said.

Desserts, entrees and breakfasts are on the 11-item menu.

Or, as Larson said, “A little bit of everything.”

She added that participants will enjoy it because “they get to see a live cooking show, like they might see on the Food Network. It’s in person, so it makes a little more fun to go out and share it with other people.”

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and there will be a booth area on the first and second floors of the high school. Members of the high school band are scheduled to provide musical entertainment.

The booth area “will feature a lot of local businesses and food,” Dempster said. “There will be people giving away food and selling food.”

The cooking show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $7 and can be purchased at Jackson’s Office Supply, Miller Family Appliance, the Kitchen Shop, the Craig Daily Press and at the event “if there are still tickets left,” Dempster said.

“They’re pretty much always sold out,” she said. “Every time I’ve been to one, it’s just been packed in the auditorium.”
