Moffat County High School girls swimming made a splash Friday during the preliminary round of the Southwestern Conference League Championships in Grand Junction, moving on to the finals in seven races, hitting two state-qualifying times.

Molly Neton, Alexa Neton, Kelsey McDiffett and Katelynn Turner hit the lowest time of the season for Moffat County girls in the 200-yard freestyle relay, placing ninth in prelims at one minute, 56.1 seconds to move on to the Saturday finals. The group is a single tick of the clock away from the 3A state time of 1:56 and will have one last shot during the meet finals.

The four of them will also be in the finals in the 200 medley relay, after hitting a time of 2:16.06 for 14th. The 400 free relay with Alyssa Chavez, Ellina Jones, Tayla Siminoe and Jeni Kincher will also hit the finals.

After multiple races in which she was less than one second from state, Molly Neton made the cut for the big time in the 100 backstroke, her 1:09.76 putting her 10th in prelims and sending her to the finals. Molly also was 15th in the 100 free at 1:04.36 to get a second round in the finals.

At 17th, McDiffett barely missed being among the top 16 to swim in the finals for the 200 individual medley. Even so, her personal best time of 2:35.86 guarantees her a place at state. She will however be in the finals for the 100 breaststroke where she placed 15th at 1:21.01.

Alexa Neton dropped more than five seconds off her best in the 200 free, clocking in at 2:23.86 for 12th and a slot in the finals.
