Susan Baird: Great group of teens

To the editor,

I was happy to see an article in the Oct. 15 edition highlighting a great group of Moffat County teens and their presentation of two portable breath-testing kits to the Craig Police Department at the last Craig City Council Meeting.

It was not mentioned in the article that the Teen Council is a Grand Futures Prevention Coalition program and that GFPC is very proud of all the things the Moffat County Teen Council stands for and accomplishes each year. The PBTs were purchased from a grant award to GFPC from the Moffat County Youth United Way. Marci Marumoto is the chair of the GFPC Advisory Board and a wonderful asset to the organization.

The Grand Futures Prevention Coalition serves Grand, Routt and Moffat counties with directors and offices in each county, diverse programming in substance abuse prevention and a mission to, “create and support positive, healthy lifestyle choices as alternatives to substance abuse for our youth and in our community.” Each of the three counties in Grand Futures’ service area has teen councils in most of its high schools, and they are great ambassadors for that mission. We enthusiastically applaud the Moffat County Teen Council for their commitment and work to improving the quality of life in their community.

Susan Baird

Grand Futures Prevention Coalition managing director
