Superfood Tip: Beets are extremely healthy

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

Beets are not only healthy, but they help lower blood pressure, according to a number of health experts.

“Beets are highly nutritious and ‘cardiovascular health’ friendly root vegetables,” states an article on “Certain unique pigment antioxidants in the root as well as in its top-greens have been found to offer protection against coronary artery disease and stroke, lower cholesterol levels within the body, and have anti-aging effects.”

Beets are sold in the supermarket and are also available at De Vries Farm Market that visits Craig each Wednesday. The Grand Junction-based farm brings pickled beets and the actual raw root to Craig each week at the former Safeway parking lot.

So if you’re looking to improve your cardiovascular health, add beets to your weekly diet.
