Super Food Tip: Canned beans

Canned beans are a great staple to have in the pantry.

These hearty legumes offer comparable protein and iron amounts as meat but without the fat and saturated fat. In addition, they provide a whopping 15 grams of fiber per 1/2 cup.

Try to choose bean products without added salt and/or rinse them thoroughly before use. Use canned beans in soups or as salad toppers. You can also make different dips such as hummus dip by smashing chickpeas with olive oil, a little plain yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, and cumin.
