Coffee company opens new location in City Market

A kiosk for Starbucks Coffee Company is the newest feature within Craig's City Market. The location opened Sunday morning, following a six-month absence of Starbucks in the town, following the closure of Safeway.

After much anticipation brewing for several months, Starbucks Coffee Company made its return to Craig this weekend.

The provider of blended beverages, pastries and more offered its grand opening Easter Sunday at a kiosk location in the southeast corner of City Market.

Employee Skye Pendleton said the first day response was enormous.

“It was busier than we even expected,” she said. “We had a line to the (front) door (Sunday) until 4:30 (p.m.). It’s going really good.”

The opening has been met with enthusiasm with residents who have missed the store’s presence since the October closure of Safeway, where Starbucks previously had its Craig operation.

Jeanne Maneotis said she has been looking forward to the return of Starbucks for quite some time, with regular trips to City Market piquing her curiosity when the remodel would be done. The section of the store includes the kiosk itself and the equipment behind the counter, as well as new tables and tiling for a small café feeling.

Maneotis said she will likely stop by frequently for iced coffee drinks in the summertime.

“I’ll probably go broke visiting since I’m in here all the time,” she said.

In the six months since the company last had its services in Craig, Maneotis bought drinks at other local locations such as Mudd Shack, a habit she said she likely will keep by making purchases at multiple coffee outlets.

“I like to spread it around, keep it fair,” she said.
