Star student for April 9

It must be the classroom situation that keeps Ashley Kaiser quiet, because outside of it, she’s got a lot to say.

Craig Intermediate School dean of students Scott Brown called the sixth-grader a quiet leader.

“She’s just so quiet, but in any group situation she’s in, I know the group will do a great job on the project assigned,” he said. “She definitely takes a leadership role.”

Kaiser said she’s not sure why she’s so quiet in school — she’s not quiet out of it.

The 12-year-old has been a Girl Scout for five years and sings with the school choir.

“I like to sing,” she said. “I don’t think I can, but I like to. Other people think I can, though.”

Kaiser likes ’80s music, reading and science. Science because she wants to be a veterinarian and because her aunt got her interested. She likes school bec-ause “it gets me away from my evil sister.”

Kaiser said her 8-year-old sister won’t leave her alone, but she gets her back.

“I torture her by annoying her,” Kaiser said gleefully “By sending the dog after her to wake her up.”

Her sister might not agree with Brown’s assessment that Kaiser is personable, helpful and willing to dive in and help wherever needed.

She might agree with teacher Laura Christensen’s description more.

“She never quits, she just keeps on going,” she said.

In her spare time, Kaiser also likes to swim, camp and fish.
