Craig’s Yampa Valley Young Professionals’ softball tourney returns to the fields
August 1, 2017
There's still time to grab the bat and mitt and enjoy the diamond this summer.
The second annual Yampa Valley Young Professional Balls Out Co-Ed Softball Tournament takes place all day Saturday during Moffat County Balloon Festival at Loudy-Simpson Park.
Late registration is still available to join the event, which begins promptly after the early morning hot air balloon launch.
It will offer a round robin format, as well as further games and a home run derby depending on the turnout.
Organizer Tori Pingley said four teams are currently committed to play: businesses Vallarta's, Trapper Mine and Masterworks Mechanical, as well as a group named Average Joes.
"Each team is guaranteed at least three games," Pingley said.

The cost is $200, not including a small late fee for last-second teams.
The format is BYOB, and the tourney will take a break to allow for lunch at the Balloon Festival.
Volunteer umpires are also needed.
The tournament is a way to increase awareness about hosting organization YVYP in addition to providing access to softball following lesser availability of the Loudy-Simpson fields in recent years due to county costs.
"I think people are really looking forward to playing in Craig again," Pingley said.
