Sports Briefs for May 23: MCHS hoops hosts fundraiser tonight
The Moffat County High School boys varsity basketball team will host its inaugural Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction Fundraiser tonight at American Legion Post 62, 1055 Moffat County Road 7.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the meal with tickets available at the door.
The cost is $10 per person and ages 5 and younger eat for free.
“We will be serving spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and dessert, and all the food will be donated by the players and their families along with the coach and his family,” said Keri Hamilton, wife of coach Eric Hamilton. “The basketball players will be serving up the food, waiting tables, cooking, doing it all.”
Following dinner, attendees can bid on a variety of items in the silent auction part of the night.
Hamilton said items up for bid include donations from businesses like Haymaker Golf Course, Big Rack Outfitters, Great Divide Cleaners and more, as well as numerous community groups and individuals.
All proceeds will benefit the team for summer camps and the 2012-13 season.

MCHS track places 8th at state
The Moffat County High School boys varsity track and field team placed eighth out of 48 teams in the 4A state track and field championships Thursday through Saturday in Lakewood.
The team sent seven competitors, as well as senior Dale Nakai, who won the 3,200-meter run at regionals but was bumped from competing at state, as an alternate.
MCHS took two titles at the meet, including the 800-meter run by senior Alfredo Lebron — finishing .03 seconds behind his school record — and the 4-by-800-meter relay, made up of Lebron and fellow seniors Johnny Landa, Rene Molina and Miguel Molina, which set a new school best.
Lebron also competed in the 1,600-meter run Saturday, finishing 10th out of 18, and was part of the 13th place 4-by-400-meter relay with Landa, Miguel Molina and junior Erik Silva-Tarango.
Also competing for the Bulldogs were seniors Andy Browning in the 200-meter dash, placing 12th, and Garrett Spears in the shot put, finishing fifth.
