Sports Briefs for June 11: Youth Hockey looking for coaches to travel with team

The Craig Youth Hockey Association is looking for volunteer coaches to travel with the team. Each age group needs volunteers: 9 to 10 “squirt” division, 11 to 12 “peewees,” 13 to 14 “bantams” and 15 to 18 “midgets.”

The hockey association is available to help children and teenagers who want to learn to play the sport, whether it’s learning how to skate or basics of how the game is played. The program, gearing up for its second year of operation, serves children from 5 to 18 years old.

Anyone interested in being involved with coaching should contact Rick Villa, CYHA Director of Coaches, at 824-6627 or 629-9367 to volunteer.

Sheriff’s Scramble tourney results

The Sheriff’s Scramble tournament was Saturday at Yampa Valley Golf Course, and eight teams competed.

The team of Rick Holford, Ken Harjes, Jim Loughran and John Whinery won the tournament on the gross (total) score, while Paul Perez, Dave Pressley, Evan Pressley and Lani Cleverly posted the best team net (total minus handicap) score.

Both teams won $40 per player in clubhouse credit.

In addition, Holford and Cleverly won $15 each for having the straightest drive for a man and woman, respectively.

The Yampa Valley Golf Course is in its busiest month of the summer for tournaments. Still to come are The Memorial Hospital Tournament on June 22, a Ladies Doubles Tournament on June 23 and the Cottonwood Classic from June 29 to July 1.
