Sports Briefs for Feb. 1, 2013: Indoor soccer at Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Craig will play host to adult co-ed Indoor Soccer.

The sport, also known as Futsal, will be open to anyone in attendance on Sunday nights from 7-9 p.m. in the Boys and Girls club gym. It started Jan. 27 and will run through mid-March.

Indoor soccer is open to players of all talent and experience levels, and while it is an adult program, is open to players interested from ages 14 and up. All entry fee proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club.

Youth Basketball registration Meeting next week

A mandatory parents and players meeting for Moffat County Youth Basketball will be at Sandrock Elementary 6 p.m. Feb. 5.

The youth basketball meeting for sixth, seventh and eighth grade divisions will be in the Sandrock cafeteria and take care of preseason housekeeping items such as registration and liability forms.

Busy weekend for Moffat County sports

Saturday and Sunday feature a long list of Moffat County High School and Craig Middle School sports, both in Craig and on the road.

The MCHS girls swimming team will be at day 2 of the Western Slope League Championships at Colorado Mesa University. It will be Bulldog swimmers’ final chance to qualify for the state meet.

Junior Varsity wrestling from Moffat County will spend the day at a tournament hosted by Grand Junction High School Saturday, as those wrestlers enter the final couple weeks of their season.

Craig Middle School girls basketball will be at Meeker, with seventh and eighth grade A and B teams taking on the Cowboys from Meeker Middle School. Games start at 9 a.m., with B teams playing second.

Freshman basketball teams from Moffat County High School will be in Vernal, Utah, taking on Uintah and Union High Schools. Games are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The rest of Moffat County’s basketball teams will be taking on Gunnison Saturday in Craig. JV girls will play first at 1 p.m. in the MCHS gym, with JV boys (2:30), varsity girls (4) and varsity boys (5:30) to follow.

The Craig Cougars Pee Wee Hockey team also has two games this weekend. The 12 and under team will be at Gunnison at 2 p.m. Saturday and at Crested Butte at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Final week for Parks and Rec spring volleyball registration

Craig Parks and Recreation has open registration for spring coed volleyball.

Rec volleyball will have a competitive league for players looking to see tougher opponents and a semi-competitive league for more casual participants. The competitive league will play Monday nights, while semi-competitive will be on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Registration for each team is $125, as well as a $10 fee for each player, and closes next Wednesday, Feb. 6.
