Sports Briefs: Cougar Bantam hockey team splits doubleheader

The Craig Cougar Bantam division hockey team acheived its first win of the season Saturday against the Ashley Valley Raptors of Vernal, Utah, winning, 2-1.

Dillon Porter and Dustin Taylor each scored a goal in the game, while Tyler Gerber and Sarah White each got an assist.

The team tied, 1-1, in the second half of the doubleheader, with Porter scoring an unassisted goal.

Goalie Denton Taylor had 57 saves throughout the two games. The team’s record stands at 1-1-2. They will next play another doubleheader against the Raptors on Jan. 15 at Moffat County Ice Arena, 600 S. Ranney St.

In other hockey action, the Cougars Squirt team’s Tuesday away games against Oak Creek were postponed because of weather conditions.

The team most recently played Telluride and Durango on Saturday and Sunday. The team lost, 11-0, to Telluride each day and lost 11-3 and 9-2 to Durango. Hunter Beckett scored three golas in the weekend games, while Alexander Barber took home two. Logan Knez and Corbin Coutts each had one assist.

The team, 0-9-1, will travel to Oak Creek on Jan. 7.

The Cougars Peewee team lost its own doubleheader Saturday to the Kremmling Cattle Kings, getting shutout, 2-0 and 4-0. The team, 0-11, will next play Grand Valley at home on Jan. 15.

Ski Club offering discount lift tickets

Craig Parks and Recreation has begun registration for Ski Club.

Ski Club offers Craig residents the opportunity to ski and snowboard in Steamboat Springs at a reduced rate on Saturdays for the rest of the season. For a one-time $10 fee to join, Ski Club members can get lift tickets for $51 for Saturday ski sessions in Steamboat. The price is a flat rate for all ages.

Regular lift ticket prices for the season are $97 for adults, $83 for teens and $59 for children.

Trailbusters season begins in January

Registration is open for Craig Parks and Recreation’s 2011 Trailbusters season.

The program teaches skiing and snowboarding skills to youths ages 6 to 15. Lessons will be in Steamboat Springs.
