Sombrero Ranches Horse Drive a success

To the editor:

WOW! That’s about all I can say in response to the wonderful participation we had this year to view the Sombrero Ranches Horse Drive!

This is the first year that Maybell as a community has encouraged people to come view this spectacular event. We (the planning committee) thought that if we had 50 spectators, we would have been successful. Did we ever underestimate the interest in this event. By our estimates, there were more than 225 people who ventured out to Maybell on Sunday to watch Sombrero Ranches run about 500 head of horses through town. It was absolutely amazing. A huge thanks goes out to all those people who ventured out and waited it out. The horses came through a little later than expected (because of circumstances beyond our control) but everyone just made the best of the situation. We are very thankful for everyone’s patience and understanding. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the members of the planning/organizing committee; Rose White, Wilma Baker, Charlene Scott, Lynda Becker, Dave and Oneta Wooden. A special thanks to Sombrero Ranches for allowing us to capitalize on their annual event. In addition, we would like to thank the following businesses and individuals: Maybell Store, Becker Concessions and Catering, Maybell Women’s Club, Maybell Park Board, Scott & Lorena Shaffer, Cattoor Photography, Winnie Delliquadri, Moffat County Morning News, Craig Daily Press and the Steamboat Pilot & Today. Thanks again to everyone who participated in the viewing of the Sombrero Ranches annual horse drive — we look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Thanks,

Lisa Balstad
