Skier rescued in Fish Creek drainage

— Routt County Search and Rescue rescued a 23-year-old man Thursday who got separated from his group while skiing in the Fish Creek drainage.

Search and Rescue’s Kristia Check-Hill said the Steamboat man had been skiing at the Steamboat Ski Area, and his group decided to ski out of bounds.

Search and Rescue was contacted at about 7:30 p.m. after the man called 911. He was not injured, but he needed help getting out.

Check-Hill said nine volunteers were involved in rescuing the man. The volunteers skied and snowshoed in, and the man was retrieved at about 10:45 p.m. He had built a small fire by the time rescuers arrived.
