Sherrie Knez: Salons in Craig accept walk-in clients

Sherrie Knez

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in regards to the letter, “Craig needs a barbershop that accepts walk-ins.”

I am a salon owner, and I couldn’t agree with you more.

There are a lot of men who are not comfortable in a salon setting, nor do they like to make appointments. I do, however, have an issue with the statement that most of the salons in Craig won’t take walk-ins.

There are many who take them on a regular basis. Our salon very seldom turns any walk-ins away, especially men because it doesn’t normally take as long to do a man’s haircut as it does for other types of service.

We try to serve them as soon as possible, usually within a 15- to 20-minute wait, which is a shorter amount of time than most have waited in a barbershop for a good, busy barber. I remember a few years ago when my husband sat for hours waiting his turn for a haircut in a barbershop. In fact, men would get there before he even opened and wait in their cars so they would be the first in line.

We also stay open late in the evening. Very seldom will you find us closed by 7 p.m. and we have taken clients at 9 p.m., working until midnight to finish the service.

When you say it took all day just looking for a salon and each one said that you would have to make an appointment next week, that’s a lot of salons.

Let’s see, how many do we have in Craig now (granted there are too many for the area), but that would mean that the majority of salons are all so busy that not one could or would help them for more than a week.

I don’t think so.

There are salons that welcome all walk-ins and will do whatever it takes to give them the best service possible, even if it means staying late into the evening, and working on the weekends to do so.

Thank you,

Sherrie Knez
