DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — A southwestern Colorado man who was angered over an inheritance killed two family members and then himself, authorities said Sunday.
The bodies of 69-year-old William Decker, his 67-year-old sister Billie Decker, and her 40-year-old son Robert Decker were found Friday.
La Plata County Sheriff’s office said Sunday night that investigation and autopsy results showed William Decker killed the other two and then took own life.
William Decker was unhappy over an inheritance distribution following the death of his mother in April, the sheriff’s department said in a release. It did not provide details.
Responding to a suspicious phone call on Friday, sheriff’s deputies went to a farm near the New Mexico border on Colorado Highway 140 found William Decker’s body hanging from a rope in the barn.
The investigation showed he had climbed a ladder and put a noose around his neck, and then shot himself with a handgun before falling off the ladder.

Robert Decker’s partially buried body was located a short while later near a riverbank on the farm, the department said. He had been shot with a handgun and suffered blows to the head.
Information found at the farm, led authorities to a residence in nearby Durango where they found Billie Decker’s body. The autopsy showed she died from strangulation and blunt trauma to the head.
