Shane Wilson honored volunteer for 2011 fair

Shane Wilson

Without the cooperation and generosity of many volunteers, the Moffat County Fair would not go on. One of those very deserving volunteers is Shane Wilson.

As many of you well know, Shane, along with Chad Green, is one of our Junior Livestock Sale auctioneers. These auctioneers volunteer their time and talents each year to make our sale a success. Shane has been involved with this process for as long as most of us can remember.

Shane had a tough act to follow, stepping into the role his father, Homer, had played for many years. Homer Wilson was one of the original founders and organizers of the Moffat County 4-H Foundation in 1968. He auctioneered the Junior Livestock Sale from its inception until his retirement in the early l980s, at which time Shane took over. Shane has volunteered his time since 1980 — that's a commitment.

Shane was born and raised in Moffat County, graduating from Moffat County High School in 1977. He has two stepdaughters, Brooke Schmidt and Morgan Mattas. He was FFA president in high school and was awarded the State FFA Horse Proficiency Award in 1977. He has been a livestock cattle producer and dealer in Fruita since 1984.

Shane has always been associated with the livestock industry. He loves to work cattle, ride horses, team rope and enjoy nature's outside world.

With that said, we need to note that Shane has taken time out of his busy schedule every year for more than 20 years to return to Craig to auctioneer this sale for the youth of Moffat County.

Over the years, and from working with his dad with the Junior Livestock Sale, Shane has watched the kids here in Moffat County grow up and return to the fair as proud parents helping their kids continue this tradition. He sees them carrying on their legacy through the generations, as he has done.

Shane, the Moffat County Fair Board wants to extend to you a huge heartfelt thank you and sincere appreciation for all you do and have done for the Moffat County Fair. It is with this sincere gratitude that we have named you one of our honorary volunteers for the 2011 Moffat County Fair.
