Services set for Craig man Justin Bliss
34-year-old local resident died Tuesday after being struck by semi-trailer
Funeral arrangements have been announced for a Craig man who died Tuesday morning.
A service for Justin Dean Bliss, 34, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. Following the service, Bliss will be buried in the Olathe Cemetery in Olathe.
Bliss grew up in Montrose before he moved to Craig at age 5.
Early Tuesday morning, Bliss was walking east towards Craig on the northern shoulder of U.S. Highway 40.
He was struck about 5:15 a.m. by a semi-trailer heading west toward Utah with a wide-load.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, part of the trailer’s load was hanging over the shoulder where Bliss was walking, and struck the pedestrian.
Bliss was transported to The Memorial Hospital in Craig and pronounced dead at 5:37 a.m., the state patrol reported
Weather, drugs, and alcohol were all ruled out as contributing factors to the crash, the state patrol also reported.
The driver of the truck, Craig resident Nicholas Anthony Peroulis, was issued a summons for careless driving causing death, a misdemeanor.
Peroulis was the only person inside the semi-trailer at the time of the accident. He was not injured.
The accident happened near mile marker 89, near Craig city limits.
