Search on for ‘person of interest’ in Flat Tops Wilderness Area
Steamboat Springs — Routt County Sheriff Garrett Wiggins says they have located Cole Pollard’s vehicle above Trappers Lake in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area.
Pollard is a person of interest in the death of Patricia Richmond, 22, who was pronounced dead Monday after being discovered tied up on the floor of a North Routt County home.
“We’ve got the vehicle, but we don’t have him yet,” Wiggins said.
Wiggins said a citizen reported the vehicle late Tuesday night in neighboring Garfield County. Authorities confirmed it was Pollard’s vehicle and began searching for Pollard on Wednesday morning.
The Garfield and Routt Sheriff’s Offices are coordinating the search along with the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
About 7:15 p.m. Monday, emergency responders were called to a report of a woman who was discovered tied up and lying face down at the home on Lupine Trail in the small, scenic community. She was not breathing and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The home in the Elk Ridge subdivision is owned by Amy and Russell West.
A family member discovered the woman after coming home from work.
Richmond, a 2010 Soroco High School graduate, was engaged to Keith West, 24, who was at the crime scene while deputies were investigating. The Wests are longtime residents, and Keith West graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 2009.
Wiggins said Pollard is a distant cousin of Keith West, and they believed Pollard was staying with grandparents in Routt County.
Wiggins would not speculate about a motive for the crime.
2:10 a.m. On the 400 block of Washington Street, police in Craig responded to an animal complaint. Craig police said a caller reported being bitten by a dog and police continue to investigate.
