Sea Sharks swim well at championship meet
Craig — The Sea Sharks traveled to Rangely for the Western Slope League Championship Meet in Rangely, from Friday, July 20, through Sunday, July 22.
Coach Meghan Francone said she was excited about the way all 17 competitors swam their best times of the summer.
“I was a little worried that I hadn’t peaked at the right time, but they all kept improving,” she said. “By the end of the summer, we were beating teams that were beating us early on in the season.”
The Sharks finished ninth out of 16 teams with 521.20 points. The Montrose Marlins won the meet with 2,478 points.
Top finishers for the Sharks were: Christa Bird, 11th in the girls 8 & younger 25-yard backstroke and sixth in the 25 breaststroke; Colby Beckett, ninth in the boys 8 & younger 25 freestyle; Kelsey Conci, first in the girls 18 & younger 50 freestyle, first in the girls 200 backstroke, first in the 100 backstroke, third in the 200 freestyle, fourth in the 200 individual medley, fourth in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 100 butterfly; Caitlin Conci, ninth in the girls 18 & younger 50 freestyle, 11th in the 100 breaststroke, 12th in the 200 backstroke, sixth in the 100 backstroke, second in the 200 butterfly, eighth in the 200 individual medley, 12th in the 100 freestyle, second in the 100 butterfly and 12th in the 200 breaststroke; Andrew Aultman, seventh in the boys 18 & younger 50 freestyle, seventh in the 100 breaststroke, ninth in the 200 freestyle, eighth in the 100 backstroke, ninth in the 200 IM, ninth in the 100 freestyle, ninth in the 200 breaststroke and ninth in the 500 freestyle; Emily Mahanna, sixth in the girls 13-14 100 breaststroke, first in the 1,650 freestyle, 10th in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 200 breaststroke; Girls 10 & younger 200 freestyle relay (Ashlee Griffiths, Katelyn Peroulis, Erin Parrott, Laurel Tegtman) seventh; Girls 12 and younger 200 medley relay (Laurel Tegtman, Erin Parrott, Han-nah Kirk, Ashlee Griffiths) seventh; Boys 14 and younger 400 freestyle relay (Colter Tegtman, Matt Hulstine, Charlie Griffiths, John Kirk) third; Laurel Tegtman, first in the girls 10 and younger 50 breaststroke, fourth in the 50 backstroke, third in the 200 individual medley, third in the 50 freestyle, third in the 50 butterfly and second in the 100 breaststroke; A.
