The Zumba Dance Party Fundraiser will offer Moffat County residents a chance to provide many opportunities to area youths.
The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion. People can get moving to the rhythm with the fitness activity Zumba as led by organizer Christalin Thompson. Things then will slow down a bit with a community dance lasting until midnight.
All ages are welcome, with children requiring an adult present, and tickets range from $15 to $30.
The price of tickets will go toward youth scholarships for children to participate in a variety of local enriching programs through Thompson’s organization, Blessed 2B a Blessing.
Thompson said she hopes to bring in $6,000 for Craig kids to be able to get involved in whatever interests they have — athletics, music, etc. — without worrying about money. Her own experiences during childhood in being limited with her activities inspired her to help others in the same situation.
“I want to be able to give back to the children who don’t have those opportunities so it will make a difference in their lives and they’ll be able to step out of the box they’re normally in to be able to do it,” she said.

A young Florida woman who traveled to Colorado and bought a shotgun for what authorities feared would be a Columbine-inspired attack just days ahead of the 20th anniversary was found dead Wednesday in an apparent suicide after a nearly 24-hour manhunt.
