Sales tax rises in Craig compared to last year

Janelle O'Dea

Sales tax figures for the City of Craig look good as the holiday season approaches.

In September 2014, the city received nearly $450,800 in sales tax, up from the $420,000 in sales tax collected for the same month in 2013.

Sales tax data lags about two months behind; September figures are reported in November.

The city’s sales tax rate is 2.25 percent, said City Manager Jim Ferree. The county’s sales tax rate is 2 percent, and the city receives .75 percent of that 2 percent.

The 2.25 percent and .75 percent added together are what the city receives in total sales taxes.
