Safeway official denies there are plans to close Craig store
Craig — Community fears about Safeway closing might be unfounded.
Kris Staaf, director of public affairs for Safeway, said the company has no official plans to close its store in Craig.
Employees of the Craig Safeway told the Craig Daily Press on Monday that the store would be closing by Sept. 21.
“I hate to see it go,” said one employee who asked to not be named. “There’s nothing we can do about it.”
The employee said rumors had been circulating since February that Safeway wouldn’t be sticking around, but in July, Safeway renewed its lease. The employee said there had been an announcement Thursday that the store would be shutting down.
Staaf said there must have been a misunderstanding.
“We are selling the pharmacy,” she said, but she had no details to release.
