Road construction, bridge replacement project in progress south of Meeker
September 6, 1999
Crews began work this week to replace the bridge over the White River on Colorado Highway 13 south of Meeker. Work began Aug. 30 with sign installation and surveying.
The project includes replacing the bridge, adding a climbing lane, and widening the shoulders along about 2.5 miles of highway south of the bridge.
Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
The improvements will cost the Colorado Department of Transportation $4.1 million. The contract was awarded to CAT Construction, Inc. of Westminster, Colo.
Project officials say drivers will use the existing roadway until next spring when removal of the pavement will begin. Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Delays from 10 to 30 minutes are possible. No work is planned during December, January or February.
The new bridge and roadway are estimated to be completed in July 2000. The old bridge will be removed and delivered to Rio Blanco County to replace two bridges there.
