Rig Count for Feb. 9, 2013

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:

• Colorado has 56 rigs online — 1 more than Feb. 1, but 9 less than Feb. 10, 2012.

• Wyoming has 46 rigs online — 1 less than Feb.1, and two less than Feb. 10, 2012.



• The U.S. has 1,759 rigs online — 5 less than Feb. 1, and 230 less than Feb. 10, 2012.

Of those rigs:



• 1,688 are working on land, 16 in inland waters, and 55 offshore.

• 1,330 are drilling for oil, 425 for natural gas.

• 185 wells are directional, 1,143 are horizontal, and 431 are vertical.

As of the close of trading Thursday:

• Crude oil closed down $1.66 from a week ago at $95.83 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed down $1.50 from a week ago at $83.35 a barrel.

• Colorado Western crude oil closed down $1.50 from a week ago at $82.88 a barrel.

• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed down $1.66 from a week ago at $83.83 a barrel.

• Natural gas closed down 5 cents from a week ago at $3.29 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
