Bulldogs basketball team falls short, 61-51

The Moffat County High School girls team fell short of its goal to win the Western Slope League championship Saturday, losing to Rifle, 61-51.

The Bulldogs trailed by one point going into the third quarter, 39-40, but the Bears scored 21 points and held Moffat to 12 points.

The Bulldogs trailed throughout the game and senior Brandie Telfer’s 23 points weren’t enough against the defending league champions.

Montanah Matthies led the Bears with 15 points. Rifle was 11 for 17 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs defeated Eagle Valley, 56-42, to get to the championship game. They finished December with a 6-1 record.
