Ridgeview Elementary participating in national reading event
Ridgeview Elementary School students will participate in the national reading event “Read the Most From Coast to Coast” this Friday.
Participating students attempt to break the record for the number of Accelerated Reader quizzes taken in one day. The event began last school year and established a record of 3,581,992 quizzes taken, which students will attempt to break this year.
Accelerated Reader is a reading management software program for K-12 schools that helps educators monitor and manage students’ reading.
“Students read a book at the appropriate level and then take a quiz on the computer,” said Shannon Samuelson, Ridgeview’s literacy coordinator, in a news release.
Samuelson said Accelerated Reader scores the quiz that assesses general comprehension of the book, monitors results and generates reports. Any students who participate in the challenge will be eligible to receive a certificate of national participation.
Educators, parents and others interested will be able to see the progress toward the national goal tracked in real time on Friday at http://www.renlearn/readthemost.com. For more information, contact the school office or Shannon Samuelson at 970-826-6473 or Jennifer Stagner at 970-826-6465.
