Restaurant owners should follow U.S. laws for flag etiquette

To the Editor:
For many generations, immigrants to this country have embraced the practices, customs and laws of the United States, their country of choice. These generations of immigrants have learned our language, our customs and laws and gladly taken them as their own.
This does not suggest that the heritage of their native land should be forgotten but that, in coming to our country, they desire to become patriotic citizens of this, their chosen country.
I have driven by the Casa Loya restaurant recently and notice they are flying the flag of Old Mexico above the restaurant. They may not be aware of the proper etiquette for flying a flag in the United States. I have enclosed a copy of Section 175, C of the United States Flag Code, which states in part,
“No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of the flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any Territory or possession thereof.”
I respectfully request that you honor our flag code and properly display the flag of the United States at your place of business. If you desire to continue flying the flag of Mexico, please respect the laws of the United States in doing so.
Sincerely,
Gwen and Dale Rickerby,
Craig
