Restaurant owners mean no disrespect to American flag

To the Editor:

In regard to the letter written in the July 5 Craig Daily Press “Restaurant Owners should follow U.S. laws for flag etiquette,” many questions come to mind after reading Mr. And Mrs. Dale Rickerby’s letter.

To begin, why wasn’t the letter to the editor completely written in the paper? This is what everybody should have read when the Rickerby’s wrote their letter: “I’m sure that, as a recent immigrant to our country you may not be aware of the proper etiquette for flying a flag in the United States.” For your information, my parents have been Craig residents for almost 30 years. I don’t think it’s fair that just because we are a newly-opened restaurant to assume we are new to this country.

Anyone who knows my parents, Trinidad and Sandra Loya, or even many of our valued customers, know they weren’t trying to offend anyone. In fact, did you notice that they took the flag down in respect of Independence Day?

If this bothered you so much, why didn’t you stop by our restaurant to discuss this? Was a letter to the editor really necessary?

To answer your question, the reason why we put up a Mexican flag was to symbolize that we ARE A MEXICAN RESTAURANT!

Mr. And Mrs. Dale Rickerby, you have too much free time on your hands! The world has too many problems than worrying about a MEXICAN FLAG.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Perea,

Craig
