Rescue workers commended for saving do-it-yourselfer

To the Editor

I would like to take time to thank all the supporting cast members who turned out Friday, May 3, on Finley Lane and provided the excellent entertainment.

In the starring role was the homeowner (aka Jeff) who was going to save money and put a new roof by himself.

Using an air nailer, he managed to nail some shingles down and also tightly nailed the large muscles in his thigh to the underlying femur. After recoiling like a rattler that had been hit with a shovel, he realized there was no getting off the roof unassisted. While not smart enough to correctly use the safety on the air gun, he was able to visualize what descending a ladder on one leg would be like.

Enter the neighbors who helped by calling 911. Without these people, Jeff might still be on the roof waving at passing cars trying to attract attention. Next were the gallant police and sheriff’s officers to the rescue. Of course, we could not have been so successful if it were not for the ambulance crew and the fire department!

They are all responsible for the painstaking task of removing our star from the roof with enough bravado to please the hundreds of onlookers gathered in the street and deliver the embarrassed homeowner to the hospital where the staff performed a nail-ectomy so he could walk again.

A HUGE THANKS to all the cast and crew for a job well done.

Jeff Whilden,

Craig
