Registration open for Trailbusters 2013
Registration now is available for the 2013 Trailbusters skiing and snowboarding beginner courses.
Local youth ages 6 to 15 can sign up from now through Jan. 7 to learn how to ski or snowboard. Trailbusters will travel to Steamboat Springs for five Saturdays starting Jan. 19 (excluding Feb. 16). Participants will need to provide their own equipment, whether it is bringing along skis or renting them.
The ski and snowboard lessons cost $250, with an additional $45 covering the five bus trips to Steamboat. A $31 lift ticket also will need to be purchased for each week.
For more information, call Pennie Bricker, of Craig Parks and Recreation, at 970-826-2029.
Pee-wee basketball leagues now open for youths
Registration for youth basketball leagues for boys and girls from kindergarten through second grade is open. The leagues start in February.
There is potential for six leagues, depending on the number of participants, and games will be played on weeknight evenings. Boys leagues will play Mondays and Wednesdays and girls will play Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The league will focus on teaching players the basics: dribbling, passing, shooting and learning to play as part of a team.
Practices start Feb. 11. Anyone registering after Jan. 9 will be placed on a waitlist with no guarantee of being put on a team.
League fees are $30. For more information, call Parks and Rec at 970-826-2004.
Open gyms starting at the middle school next week
Craig Middle School’s gym will be open to the public two nights per week starting in November.
Anyone ages 15 and older is welcome to come from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Nov. 13. The gym will be open for shooting around or playing pickup games.
No registration prior to the open gyms is required. There is a $2.50 fee to be collected at the door for each open gym, or a punch pass can be purchased.
The program will run from Nov. 13 through Feb. 14. Craig Parks and Recreation still is seeking gym supervisors for open gyms and Parks and Rec basketball.
To call about becoming a supervisor (open to those ages 14 and older), call 970-826-2006. For more information about the open gyms, call 970-826-2004.
Winter lifeguard training courses coming up
Registration for a lifeguard training course during the winter break is open.
Craig Parks and Recreation has aquatic programs year-round and is in need of lifeguards during the winter and spring. The class is for teenagers and adults older than 15.
Participants must pass a swim test before being allowed to take the lifeguard course, which will take place during the school’s winter break.
The swim test will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12, and also doubles as the last day to sign up for lifeguard training.
There is a registration fee of $125. All those interested should call Parks and Rec at 970-826-2017 to register.
