Registration open for HawkQuest live photo shoot
August 1, 2018
CRAIG — A limited number of photographers will have the opportunity to “shoot” a bald eagle, a barn owl, a great-horned owl, a peregrine Falcon and a Harris hawk — with their cameras, of course — at the HawkQuest live photo shoot, which will be led by Kin Quitugua during the Yampa Valley Crane Festival.
Presented as a special workshop for the Yampa Valley Crane Festival, the photo shoot is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, within 10 miles of Steamboat Springs. The cost is $50 per photographer
The birds will be positioned in their natural environments in the wild. The lighting, while subject to the weather of the day, will be chosen carefully to allow for optimum exposure. Handlers with extensive knowledge will provide information about each raptor.
In addition to close-up photography, two of the birds will be flown so participants can see not only how they take to the air, but also photograph the birds in flight.
Experienced photographers will be on-hand to offer advice for less-experienced photographers. Professional gear is not needed — only a desire to have an up-close experience with these birds of prey.
