Ranching book helps fundraiser
Craig — Great Ranches of the West is a large, 228-page coffee table book featuring spectacular photography and the fascinating history of 30 great ranches and the families that run them, and a portion of its sales are being used as a fundraiser for Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund, United Stockgrowers of America.
This book, by award-winning photographer Jim Keen, celebrates the lifestyle of ranchers and cattle producers from 17 western states, many of whom are members of R-CALF USA.
Keen said his book is important not only because it documents the history of the ranches, but also because it manages to create in the reader an appreciation and admiration of the ranchers, their strong work ethic, their traditional values and their creative ingenuity.
“We can all learn from the character traits and can-do attitudes that these ranchers have,” Keen said. “Those are the traits this nation was founded on, and we need to get them back and teach them to our children.”
Keen said he hopes this book will generate more interest and awareness of the issues that directly impact U.S. ranchers and cattle producers, as well as affect others in this world we live in.
“Most city dwellers, for instance, have little understanding of current agricultural issues like foreign trade or country-of-origin labeling (COOL), or how those issues ultimately will affect them,” Keen said.
For R-CALF USA members who purchase the book, Keen has offered to donate back to R-CALF USA 25 percent of the sale of each book so the organization can continue to represent the interests of independent U.S. cattle producers.
“Purchasing Great Ranches of the West for your friends and family members, as well as a copy for yourself, is an easy way to help support R-CALF USA,” R-CALF USA National Membership Committee Co-Chair Joel Gill said. “Our sincere thanks to Jim Keen for his generosity in making this possible.”
The book sells for $49.95, which includes shipping and handling.
