Moffat County High School cross country got a good start on the season Friday when runners took on the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede in Colorado Springs.

For the girls, Ary Shaffer had the top time, clocking in at 22 minutes, 24.80 seconds, finishing in 12th place out of 92 total runners, Allie Dilldine followed in 21st at 23:04.80 and Emily Womble in 25th, 23:44.90.
While the girls group did not have enough competitors to place among teams, the boys ranked seventh among 14 qualifying 3A schools.
Picking up where he left off last fall, Ashley Suits had the top Bulldog time at 19:18.00, which put him in 23rd place out of 105 runners.
Riley Allen was 33rd at 19:44.20, with Brandon Beason (20:32.40, 50th), Andrew Keiss (20:40.80, 53rd), Isaac Chacon, (21:39.10, 70th) and Steven Walls (22:22.80, 83rd) rounding out the times.
The Stampede serves as a pre-state event to allow harriers to get a sense of the course they will hopefully return to for the end of the season.
On Friday, MCHS will compete at the Delta Invitational.
