Pres and Patti Askew: Give youths first-rate educational experience
October 11, 2007
For almost 10 years, we lived in Craig and enjoyed the lifestyle of a great community.
Craig and Moffat County will always have a special place in our hearts, and we continue to be property owners in Craig and Moffat County and thus tax payers. We feel that the property taxes we pay are really an investment since the value of our property is affected by the level of services provided by the city and county, not the least of which is the quality of education provided by the Moffat County School District.
Both businesses and individuals include the quality of the local schools among factors when determining whether or not to locate or reside in a community. Attracting good businesses and new residents, as well as retaining current ones, benefits all residents. Consequently, supporting 3A for the Moffat County School District would seem to be an easy decision for voters concerned with having a desirable community and focusing on the greater good.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German theologian hanged for involvement in a plot to overthrow Hitler, said, “The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.”
It would seem that an investment of $5 to $10 per month in the form of the proposed mil levy is a reasonable decision for those desirous of seeing Craig and Moffat County continue to be a great place to live and raise a family. We will be pleased to see an increase in our property taxes in order to give the youth of Craig and Moffat County a first-rate educational experience.
