Post 62 set for district tournament
U-16 teams nab top spots
The American Legion Post 62-B baseball team will be heading to Evergreen for the Division I Denver league District B tournament from Thursday to Monday.
“We’re going to be either the sixth or seventh seed heading into the weekend,” coach Rich Sadvar said. “We are a young group this year, with last year’s seventh- and eighth-graders making up about one-third of the team.”
After winning the district tournament last year as the second seed, things are shaping up differently this summer. With a 10-10 record, the team is facing a tough challenge in trying to defend its title this weekend.
“It’s always tough to defend because you have graduated some of your veteran players,” Sadvar said. “But I feel good about how they have been playing lately, so we’ll see.”
Post 62 swept Woodland Park Gray at home last weekend, winning both games by 15 runs (20-5 and 18-3).
“Everybody played well last week,” Sadvar said.
It is crucial for Post 62 to play well during the district tournament if players hope to garner another berth at the state level.
U-16 baseball
It was a fun weekend for the members of Craig baseball U-16 teams.
The 11- and 12-year-old group beat the team from Hayden to take first in the tournament. One 8-, 9-, and 10-year-old team took first place, and another took second place, in their division.
