Police: Craig Middle School student caught with drugs

A 13-year-old student at Craig Middle School received a summons for possession of a “very small amount” of marijuana, police said.

Craig police Capt. Jerry De-Long said school officials alerted police that the teenager allegedly had marijuana in her possession at the school Fri-day.

School officials received permission from one of the student’s parents to search the teen’s backpack. School faculty found a folded piece of paper containing a small amount of marijuana, police said.

The teen will have to appear in city court for the alleged offense.

DeLong said school officials typically are prompt about notifying police if they suspect a student has drugs in his or her possession.

“We can’t do this jobs by ourselves,” he said.

“We need help from the community. The schools are pretty good — when they find drugs in the school system they notify us.”
