The Craig Police Department is asking for the public’s help with an investigation into the disappearance of a Craig woman, whom the department believes likely fell victim to a crime.

Cynthia Hankins, also known as Cynthia Runnels, was last seen June 7 in Craig.

Investigators are asking the public to inform them whether anyone saw the missing woman’s vehicle – a maroon, 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora four-door sedan – in Craig between June 2 and June 9.

“According to friends, they say Cynthia always had several of the tree air fresheners hanging on the rear view mirror,” Police Department investigator Jen Kenney said. “I would be interested if anyone saw the vehicle during the time frame.”

In the last week, police have executed three search warrants in an effort to locate the 36-year-old Hankins. The searches were conducted at the Craig home Cynthia Hankins shared with her husband, Terry Hankins, and at Terry Hankins’ mining claims.

Police have said Terry Hankins is a “person of interest” in the case. The mining claims police searched were in Moffat County and Carbon County, Wyo.

The searches did not unearth any new evidence or information, Police Chief Walt Vanatta said. The investigation continued as of Friday.

Anyone with information into the missing woman is to call the Police Department at 824-8111 and ask for detectives Kenney or Ken Johnson.

In other police news:

• The Police Department is advising local motorists to be careful driving near the new Wal-Mart construction site on West Victory Way. The area will be busy with construction – including a lighted intersection – between now and July 26, Vanatta said.

“People can expect some slow driving and need to be extra vigilant,” he said.
