Police arrest robbery suspect

Police arrested a Craig man Monday night on suspicion of robbing the west end Kum & Go.

Talmage Earl Willis, 23, faces charges of robbery, theft and third-degree assault in connection with the incident.

A female clerk at the store said a man entered the store several times Monday to buy lottery tickets, Craig police Lt. John Forgay said.

During the last transaction, the man grabbed the woman’s wrists when she opened the register to get change, pushed her away from the register, took money from the drawer and ran from the store, according to the account the clerk gave police.

Police responded to the call at about 9:30 p.m.

Forgay said witnesses provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle. A suspect matching the description of the robber was noticed leaving a residence on Rose Street, Forgay said. Police found $75 on the man, but the convenience store reported $140 missing, he said. The suspect was arrested, Forgay said.

“It wasn’t immediate,” Forgay said about the arrest. “In my opinion, the officers did a wonderful job at the scene of getting information that led to an investigation of a possible suspect.”

Forgay said officers didn’t obtain a reason why the suspect allegedly robbed the store. No alcohol or drug use is suspected in the incident, Forgay said.
