Phyllis Barainca: Don’t ‘destroy’ the deer

To the editor:

Leave it to the Colorado Division of Wildlife to come up with three ways to reap death and destruction in the streets and outskirts of Craig.

I attended the Tuesday meeting and learned that the DOW has a plan to remove deer from the town. Apparently, the DOW presented it to other Colorado towns and were turned down. The town-folks wouldn’t do it.

Will Craig America have the reputation of being the Colorado town (elk hunting capital of the world, no less) that allows this?

I, for one, can’t imagine it.

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

Remember that really bad winter a couple of years ago? It seemed like the only deer that survived were town deer. I bet those elk that were piled up dead along the fences wished they lived in town, too.

No, I don’t think they should move in, and I don’t want them to. But, don’t destroy what is here.

I can’t live in a town that does that.

Put my vote down as no.
