Petrone welcomes community to new school year
Dear Moffat County school community:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
These often quoted words from Margaret Meade, noted American scientist, echoed Wednesday morning during the opening assembly for the 2012-13 school year.
As student leaders took the stage, they inspired and entertained. They reminded us through poignant stories and superlative performances that we — our school and wider community — have profound and lasting influences on them, and them on us.
Student leaders, at all levels of the district, are intelligent and empowered advisors to the work we do on their behalf. They motivate us to serve them and their families at the highest level.
Dedicated community members joined us this year and provided much needed and vital encouragement. The demonstrated commitment from three community groups has been energizing and revitalizing for all of us in the school community.
The Bulldog Booster Club, Maximum Commitment to Excellence Committee and Friends of Moffat County Education emerged this past year as convincing and committed groups of parents, business leaders, civil servants and community leaders. The strong positive voices and deliberate good deeds of these groups are indispensable ingredients for sustained growth toward educational preeminence in Moffat County.
Along with students and community leaders, veteran faculty gathered to meet and welcome newly employed teachers. They greeted their new partners with eager enthusiasm.
The 2012-13 faculty is a professional learning community unmatched in skill and talent. Our faculty is a unique assemblage of competent and caring professionals with a common purpose — higher levels of student achievement and engagement.
This remarkably rare and profoundly steadfast faculty, together with equally determined principals, is leading our district to higher and sustained levels of achievement and engagement.
Together, our collaborative collection of thoughtful, committed groups will indeed have a sustained, positive and lasting impact on our students and wider community. The Moffat County Board of Education and I wholeheartedly salute you — our students, parents, community and all district employees — and celebrate the beginning of a new and transformational year in Moffat County.
