Pastor Dale Potter : Missing the point

To the Editor:

I am writing in response to the woman who thought that Yampa Valley Baptist Church is trying to use scare tactics on the people of Craig. She compared using scare tactics to the methods of Hitler, Stalin and Chairman Mao.

I am sorry that she missed the point of our ad completely. The article was intended as good news — not scare tactics. The emphasis was that Jesus already has paid for the sins of the whole world as declared in I John 2:2, so that we are no longer accountable for them. The only thing we have to do is accept the gracious pardon offered by God by believing that He gave His own Son as a substitute for us. Every person can say, “My sins are all paid for! I don’t need to go to hell; I can go to heaven because of God’s great love for me.”

This truth is shown in the most loved verse in the Bible: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

This is wonderful good news, and I hope that the woman will read this and believe — and all Craig along with her!
