A fire broke out overnight on Monday, March 17 at 1393 North Yampa Ave. in Craig, causing significant damage. The blaze partially burned through the home, garage, and a nearby trailer, and destroyed most of the homeowner’s shop.

Clyde White, 76, who has owned the property since 1989, suspects a lithium battery in his shop may have been the cause. The property was affected by a fire 20 years ago, White said, and they had recently finished remodeling the home. White currently lives in Shadow Mountain.

White mentioned the financial loss of the damage to his shop, as the vast majority of his tools and equipment were destroyed. There was no one present in the house when the blaze occurred.

“It’s all rebuildable, but I don’t know if I have the heart to,” said White, who added that the home is uninsured.

This is a developing story.
